Aloha

Our mission is to engage in the promotion of orchid culture, extending the knowledge, production and appreciation of orchids; to acquire and disseminate information relating to orchid culture and to encourage participation in orchid shows and displays.

About Us

THE HISTORY OF KOS

Back in the early 1950s, Kunia Camp pineapple plantation workers got together to form an Anthurium Club.   Since not all of them grew anthuriums exclusively, they decided to form the Kunia Orchid Club, combining anthuriums and orchids.  They started with 33 members and held their meetings in Wahiawa at the district park.  Shows were held at the old “rustic” Kunia Gym until Del Monte closed its doors in 2006.

Today, more than 65 years since the first group of Kunia orchid lovers joined together, Kunia Orchid Society members gather together from Mililani to Wahiawa, from Pupukea to Kapolei.  Each year, the Kunia Orchid Society members showcase their prize-winning orchids and share their knowledge of orchid culture at the Kunia Orchid Show.

Thanks to the benevolent cooperation of the Leilehua High School Athletic Department, the Kunia Orchid Society has been able to use the Leilehua Gym for their annual show.  The larger facility allows for more floral displays, vendor booths and a Country Store with ample parking available for visitors.  The working relationship with Leilehua High School and the Wahiawa Community has been a great asset for KOS.

The Kunia Orchid Society’s mission is to promote the cultivation of orchids.  Anyone interested in learning about growing and caring for orchid plants is welcomed to join.  Meetings are held at Mililani Ike Elementary School at 7:00 pm on the first Tuesday of each month, except April and December.
